Livin' it up Living Room Style

I mentioned in the previous post that I am all over the board on the style of the rest of the house. I am completely torn as to what style would be suit this house. I love the history behind the house. It was built circa 1900's and still has some great charm about her. She was built near a river and then later moved a few streets over. I wanted to do the house justice and give her a light beachy cottagy disguise because of her original location, but I am a country girl at heart. I love rustic, antique and distressed 'things.' I guess only time will tell and I have to remind myself that I can always change the look if I'm unhappy with either choice. Ahhh, the dilemmas of owning a home. I LOVE it :)

Now onto the inspiration living room photos:

Our living room is VERY much structured like this room.  We have the two windows at the front of the house with a wall in the middle.  I'd love to add a fireplace like they've done here.  We also have a side window to the left like this photo.  I'm not a huge fan of the wall color nor the furniture.  I'd like to do tans and sage green.

Oooo how I ADORE this home.  I think I'm mostly drawn to the lighting in the room.  I love those light fixtures and I am in love with the front door. I am in awe at how light and bright it all is.

In this picture it's the bead-board ceiling for me and the floor to ceiling windows.  A girl can dream :)

If this living room looks familiar to you... it's the living room from the movie Somethings Gotta Give.  I love that entire house, top to bottom.  The serene blues and whites make me heart sigh.

Love the trey ceiling and the fireplace

Paint inspiration color.. the sage green walls, and I adore the rustic-ness of  the coffee table. Hubby would have me committed if I brought in pink furniture haha.

The drapes are fantabulous and an option for floor color. The original hardwood floors are being refinished and I have to pick out a "color" for the floors.  I'm really undecided on this!!
furniture.

We have stairs in the living room that will be exposed like this.  I love the idea of the bead-board on the wall of the stairs.  I think I should just buy bead-board in bulk and cover the house with it bahaha!
I love the layout of the room.  It's VERY similar to the our house layout.  The living room is opened up to the dinning room on the right just like in this photo. What I love is the yellow and green walls.

                                      Color inspiration

                              ::drools all over self::

There is that yellow green combo again.  Hmm I think i might be onto something here.

Love the fact that this fireplace is faux.  It's a built in T.V. with a fireplace DVD playing haha.  It's the perfect way to save on the cost/up keep of putting a fireplace in.  I also think its great for watching the ol' tube.

                          Color inspiration.. again

Bookshelf on the other side of the stairs.

Have a beautiful day,

Enter atcha own risk

Here are some inspiration pics I've stolen over the last few months.  Our entry way will be one of the very first things that we remondel once we've moved in.  It will pretty much need to be gutted and redone completely.. which is great for me because I can start with a clean slate.  These pictures will also include front door pictures as we will also be purchasing a new front door and repainting the entire house and trim.

We would like to paint the entire house a green-ish/grey-ish color with cream-ish/light green-ish trim.  The photo above is the closest I could find in colors.

Love this inviting front door.. makes me wanna step inside and take a peek around :)

Double doors in entry way. Living room to the left, dinning room to the right.  I also like the lantern style lightning used in the entry way.

There is a small closet to the left as you enter the home. I would love to convert the closet into a seating/storage area similar to the photos above.  I would like to add a monogramed mirror above the bench like the photo below.

Another bench idea with baskets for storage.  Love the look of the calming blue walls in the entry way.  We'd also like to add slate style flooring to the entry way that will be the same in the kitchen. I'm still on a hunt to find that just perfect slate flooring.

I will be moving on to the living room inspiration pics tomorrow.  I have many more LR pics than entry way pics and I seem to be all over the place in my design choice.  I cannot decide if I'd like to go with a light airy beachy style or a more light rustic country style.  I guess I'll have to make that decision sooner than I ever imagined.  Hopefully I'll be able to get more of a feel after I've complied all my files into one area.

See ya soon,

Welcome to Serene Seneca

This blog is designed mainly as a means for keeping track of all the photo files I've saved on my computer over the last year or so. I am an interior designer at heart! I dream of homes and remodeling practically all the time. I'm that friend/relative that comes over to your house and starts envisioning how to remodel your home while visiting with you haha.

I can't help it either; it's almost like a sickness. I really wish I would have spent the last 4 years getting a degree in design instead of teaching, but I regress as my discovery is far too late ::sniffle:: But I remember reading somewhere that once you make a hobby your job, people often lose their love for the hobby. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

A snippet of recent events:

A sad fact is I've just graduated with no hope for a job in the state I'm in. Most positions have between 200-300 applicants and I have become utterly discouraged. I hope to be employed with the coming New Year in a different field.

An incredibly happy fact is Hubby and I have just been "given" a house to call our own. It is being gifted to us by my in-laws who have since moved into another home. We are soo incredibly thankful for this blessing as we have thousands of dollars in student loans to pay back over the next bazillion years and never thought this day would come. I thought we were going to be termed renters for the rest of our lives.
We will have to wait to move into the home until FIL has purchased a new garage and storage shed to move his many many things into... but in the mean time I'm dreaming up a big ol' dream home that entails moving stairs, ripping apart walls and adding an addition to the home. Can you say I'm a bit overzealous? Absolutely!!

Come along for a ride with me and see what kinda dream home I can conjure up.
See you soon,
